 "CHRISTINE KING" COOPERATIVE

The Christine King Cooperative was founded in May 2001 and named in memory of Dr. Christine King who worked to promote the education of women before her tragic death in an automobile accident in England where she lived. The cooperative has over 20 members working mainly in training and education activities. The majority of the members are women. The cooperative offers them a better alternative than seeking work as employees in a low-wage economy. Currently the cooperative offers the following services:

  • Night-class adult baccalaureate program for women only
  • Weekend adult baccalaureate classes for women and men
  • Computer skills training
  • Child care / pre-school centre for 2-5 year olds
  • Health care program and dispensary
  • Craft skills, sewing and ceramics classes
  • Counselling and personal development workshops
  • Legal advice
  • Environmental workshop
  • Plant nursery / organic compost project
