The feast of the Immaculate Conception of Our Lady is an important rellgious occasion for people in Nicaragua most of whom profess Catholicism. Some observers suggest that the Purisima is as important as Semana Santa - Holy Week - in the calendar of the Catholic Church in Nicaragua.

In accordance with the general feeling of the staff and students in the education programs supported by Supreremos the foundation organizes a ceremony to celebrate the Purisima in the first fortnight of December every year.

This year we organized the event for December 12th. As usual, around 200 people attended, first praying and singing in honour of Our Lady and afterwards enjoying snacks and fruit drinks.

By tradition everyone receives a small packet of sweets, something much longed for by the children.

This year the Purisima was accompanied by a local choir.

Staff and students put much thought and care into setting up the altar for the event
