In January 2013 we built a new kiln to be able to make more efficient the wood-burning system used in the ceramic workshop. This will also enable us to use the space where the old kiln was sited so as make more space available for the women's aid program which has been become cramped for space as more people have made use of that facility. The new kiln is a bigger version of the original kiln built from adobe with which the ceramic workshop started up in 2004. Back then the project was essentially a training program. But in recent years the workshop's production aspect has predominated, while still providing a training facility for local women and young people interested in learning ceramics skills. |
