| This year's medical delegation coordinated by Dr. Peter Loewinthan and his colleagues at Dorchester House Multi Service Center in Boston included a dental team, as well as pediatricians, and adult providers specializing in internal medicine and family medicine. The delegation delivered care to over 1700 children and over 1400 adults in urban barrios and rural communities throughout the municipality of Estelí. The team was also able to help the local health service dramatically reduce the waiting list for women from rural areas requiring checks for possible cervical cancer. Dr. Kirsten Meisinger and colleague Dr. Katy Mimno saw over 50 women requiring this follow up. Maria Vasilakis and her dental team delivered care to around 100 patients during the four days they were able to work. The delegation was delayed by the snow storms that struck the north eastern United States on the weekend of February 9th and 10th when the group was scheduled to travel. But the delegation members worked extra days in order to make up for the time lost. These photos were taken by Dr. Joshua Kantrowitz during from a day the delegation spent in the rural community of El Espinal. |
