From July 29th to August 2nd this year, Dr. Michelle Henshaw and Dr. Corinna Culler of Boston University's School of Dental Medicine are accompanying the preschool educators they have trained over the last four years as part of a preventive dental health care program carried out in coordination with Nicaragua's Ministry of Health and the Ministry for the Family.
During the current activity Dr. Culler is evaluating the dental health of the young children participating in the program to try and measure the improvement in their dental health since the program began. The program is currently working with over 820 preschool students in preschools supervised by teh Ministry for the Family
Superemos has facilitated this program since November 2015. This pilot stage ends in August 2020. Depending on the results, the program may be extended to other parts of Nicaragua so as to ensure improved dental health in Nicaragua for all children attending pre-school.
