After a break over the Easter holiday, we have continued our program activities. These photos cover some of our training and educational activities here in the project centre in Estelí.

Workshops on gender issues

The Estelí Women's School at Superemos has always integrated workshops on issues like reproductive health, employment rights, self esteem and domestic violence into its educational programmes for women on low incomes in Estelí and adjoining areas.

Keeping the equilibrium between activities and administration

Superemos continues developing its various project activities in close coordination with its main partner organization the "Christine King" Multi-Service Cooperative. In March, all the programs and projects began a careful review to try and improve their administration and coordination. Much of the success the Superemos programmes have achieved  has depended on the integral relationship between different kinds of activities that make possible better interaction with local communities.

General
The foundation's long standing programmes of secondary education for low income women, support for preschools, preventive health care and general skills training continued in 2013, alongside newer programmes addressing domestic violence and providing music education. At Superemos, we focused particularly on developing these newer programmes while sustaining the better established ones.

Medical groups from Boston visit Esteli and surrounding communities

Superemos hosted two medical brigades in February 2014. One from Dorchester House Multi Service Center and another from Boston University. The Dorchester House group visited seventeen communities in and around the city of Estelí seeing a total of over 2000 patients - more than 1100 children and over 900 adults. The Boston University group provided dental care in five rural communities around the city of Estelí to about 100 patients and also preventive dental care in five primary schools in the city of Estelí itself to a total of over 600 children.

Sones Segovianos - end of year music concert

On December 21st this year the Sones Segovianos Music Education program held its end of year concert together with 14 students from the project's sister program in Palacagüina some 60Km north of Estelí. Here we post some photographs fo the activity and a couple of audio files with some of the wonderful music performed by the programs' students. We are very grateful to the Central American Fund for Human Development, the First Congregational Church of Evanston, Illinois and to the Dorchester House Multi Service Center of Boston for making these music education programs possible.

Results of Esteli Women's School Scholarship program

In 2013, thanks to the Central American Fund for Human Development, the Estelí Women's School was able to offer scholarships to 64 women from low income families in Estelí, enabling them to finish their secondary level education so as to qualify for study at university level. Most of these women students are domestic workers or workers in the local tobacco industry.
