The devastating flooding in later September destroyed the embankment carrying the Panamerican Highway adjacent to the Superemos project site. The Ministry of Transport is carrying out impressive engineering work to protect the highway. To our good fortune, that work necessarily involves a retention barrier that will protect the Superemos site. Superemos was also the beneficiary of a grant of US$3000 with which to purchase construction materials to rebuild the infrastructure lost to the floods. Thanks to an important donation from our friend Fiona Graham and her colleagues in Brussels we have been able to carry out welcome improvements to the classrooms at the two preschools we help in marginal barrios on the western outskirts of Estelí. Here are some photos of the Estrellitas #2 preschool in Barrio Felipe y Mery Barreda showing some of the repainting and carpentry work the community have been able to carry out with the donation.

The ceramic workshop's kiln is now rebuilt. To save time, we used one of the existing rooms at the back of the school which we will replace later in time for the visits we expect early in 2011. See more photos here.

The ceramic workshop is currently producing this mobile to complete and order from Nicaragua's First Lady, Rosario Murillo. The mobile consists of 25 angels each with a different musical instruments. The ring supporting the weight of the ceramic figures is made in the cooperative's metal workshop.
